Creators of works will be the default copyright owners under changes proposed in the Copyright Bill, and this will encompass photographs, engravings and sound recordings. NMP Raj Joshua Thomas said the public must be made aware of this change and of what they must do to own the copyright to works they commission, such as wedding photos or videos. In Parliament on Monday (Sep 13), he also welcomed a new regulatory framework for collective management organisations handling copyright matters, but called for this to be balanced with cost control and a phased-in approach.
