By implementing the measures proposed in the Anti-Money Laundering and Other Matters Bill, Singapore can deter criminal activities and ensure that it remains a secure, trusted and resilient financial hub for future generations, said NMP Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 6), she stressed the need to reinforce the foundations of the financial system and uphold global standards of transparency and accountability. She also raised concerns that some people may fall victim to exploitation or coercion more easily. These include young people, migrant workers, people with disabilities and women. She suggested education campaigns to remind people to be vigilant. She also wanted to know what training and awareness programmes are in place to help officials identify, detect and investigate environmental crimes that may occur overseas, as well as the support that will be given to enable them to better collaborate and cooperate with international stakeholders. She also asked how generative AI is being utilised to tackle the issue of money laundering.
