Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim on Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill
Even in a society as cohesive as Singapore, disputes between neighbours can arise, highlighting that we can always do better. As we work to address these issues through legislation, let us not forget the goal to build a Singapore that is not just lawful, but compassionate, kind and just for all. NMP Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 12). This Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill is a step towards that vision, she added. She stressed that while enforcement is necessary, prevention through community policing can be a powerful tool to build empathy and harmony. She suggested expanding community policing initiatives to detect and address potential nuisance issues before they escalate, such as having dedicated teams of officers working with specific communities. Singapore can build stronger and more harmonious communities by shifting the focus from solely punitive enforcement to proactive community policing, she added. Â
