Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim on Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill

08:29 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (May 7), NMP Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim said the proposed amendments in the Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill are "sensible" and will enhance Singapore's ability to protect ongoing service delivery of Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) in Singapore, regardless of whether the provider of that service is locally based or overseas. She asked if the ministry has taken into account the capacity of service providers to meet the new obligations, and suggested that the ministry undertake an engagement campaign to alert them to the new obligations and offer technical, practical and financial support or advice as needed. She also highlighted that while safeguarding CII and sensitive data is paramount, overly burdensome regulation may "stifle the very innovation Singapore relies on".
