S$33m support package to help social residential homes transit to new licensing framework

Singapore has passed new laws to enhance the quality of care at social residential homes. A S$33 million support package will help operators transition to a new licensing framework. Background checks by the Ministry of Social and Family Development will be made compulsory for all full-time staff. Unannounced inspections will also be conducted by an independent board across all homes. While some MPs have raised concerns on additional costs operators may have to bear, operators said the new regulations will provide clarity on industry practices, such as the use of restraints on clients.
