Saktiandi Supaat on Bretton Woods Agreements (Amendment) Bill

05:01 Min

The Bretton Woods Agreements Act enables Singapore to participate and perform its obligations as a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, said MP Saktiandi Supaat. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Jul 3), he said Singapore contributes not only because it should give back to the international community, but also because a prosperous and growing global economic environment is important to the country’s open trade-dependent economy. He also sought clarifications on the Bill. One relates to the IMF’s offices in Singapore. He wanted to know why they are excused from Parliamentary oversight of the maximum of grants that can be given by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Mr Saktiandi also wanted to know what their functions are, how they benefit Singapore and the costs of sustaining their operations and functions.
