Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari on Skills and Workforce Development Agency Bill

09:54 Min

The mandate of the new Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) must be clear - measure training outcomes, not just outputs. NMP Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari said this in parliament on Tuesday (May 5). He urged the agency to track and publish outcomes such as time to placement, wage growth, post-training and job fit rates to “keep the system honest”. He also called for small- and medium-sized enterprises to be included in sector-level transformation and workers to be represented in the governance structure of the SWDA. Mr Tiwari added that the agency’s work must be built on intelligence, using labour market data to ensure that workers are never trained “for yesterday’s economy”.
