Seah Kian Peng on Singapore’s COVID-19 response

13:09 Min

The White Paper on Singapore’s COVID-19 response holds many useful operational lessons that will stand the country in good stead, but the most valuable lesson may be a reminder of the importance of the human dimension, said MP Seah Kian Peng. He gave examples of how Singaporeans banded together to respond to the crisis. Paying tribute to essential and frontline workers, he said the pandemic showed how important, underrated and underappreciated they were. He said it was clear that Singapore needed an “overhaul” in various areas from wages to social and economic structures, from the way of living to how resources are allocated. From his perspective as Group CEO of NTUC Enterprise, Mr Seah shared initiatives that were undertaken to ensure access to affordable essential goods and services, support vulnerable groups and small businesses, and diversify sources of supply. He spoke in Parliament on Monday (Mar 20).
