Sharael Taha on Constitution and Penal Code Amendment Bills relating to Section 377A

10:12 Min

It is necessary for Singaporeans to accept the repeal of Section 377A and the constitutional amendment to protect marriage as a consensus, and the best possible outcome after years of deliberation. This call came from MP Sharael Taha, who highlighted concerns about increased activism on both ends of the spectrum which could be aggressive and even divisive. Mr Sharael said activists in both camps need not think they should resort to drastic measures to highlight their cause, or be influenced by foreign developments and voices which do not align with Singaporean values. He spoke in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28).
