Sharael Taha on Platform Workers Bill
The Platform Workers Bill is a result of Singapore's unique tripartite model and what “we can achieve by working together”, said MP Sharael Taha. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Sep 9), he said it is an important step towards protecting workers, ensuring their financial security and rebalancing the needs of all stakeholders. However, several areas require clarification to ensure a smooth implementation, he said. He wanted to know how the Government would define platform operators and if it would provide guidance on this. On CPF contributions, he wanted to know how these would be computed for platform workers and whether they would be based on gross earnings or net earnings. With platform workers using different modes of transport, he wanted to know how the expenses would be factored in. He also asked if the Platform Workers CPF Transition Support would be based on gross or net income and whether it would be disbursed annually, monthly or daily.
