Shawn Loh on Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill

09:08 Min

Employers should welcome the Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill as it provides clarity over the process and timelines for dispute resolution, said MP Shawn Loh. The bill also protects, or at least seems to protect, employers by providing for confidentiality during the dispute resolution process, he added. But he has a few concerns. One of them is the possibility of frivolous claims, as well as the potential for claim amounts to be inflated. Another concern is the risk of claimants publicising their cases on social media before the process is concluded. He also raised concern for workers who are not unionised and urged NTUC to consider supporting such workers if they agree to sign up as union members in the future.
