Singapore seizes record 35.7kg of smuggled white rhino horns worth S$1.13m at Changi Airport

03:12 Min

Singapore has seized a record 35.7kg of illegal white rhino horns worth about S$1.13 million. The smuggling attempt was foiled on Nov 8 at Changi Airport, after a strong odour from the shipment made workers raise the alarm. The air cargo shipment — which also contained 150kg of bones, teeth and claws of other animals — was en route to Laos from South Africa. A team at the Centre for Wildlife Forensics will determine where the white rhino horns came from. After investigations, NParks will dispose of the horns and other parts according to international guidelines to prevent them from re-entering the market. Eugene Chow reports.
