ST Engineering opens new 14-hectare smart shipyard at Gul Road to replace Tuas Yard
A new smart shipyard has opened, replacing ST Engineering's Tuas Yard as its lease expires at the end of this year. The 14-hectare Gul Yard is twice the size and will be able to handle larger projects. Previously, it could build vessels up to 150 metres, but the new yard can go to as large as 240 metres. Gul Yard also incorporates smart wearables, autonomous vehicles and AI into its operations. ST Engineering Group estimates that these capabilities will save the manpower equivalent of 400 to 500 workers. Rachel Teng reports.
