Khoo Teck Puat Hospital has set up Singapore's first dedicated geriatric emergency care unit, which is expected to serve more than a thousand patients annually and shorten hospital stays from a week to just 24 hours. GEM CARE is an expansion of a pilot that started with six beds in July. The elderly make up over a quarter of the up to 300 patients daily at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital emergency department.
