Sun Xueling on elder abuse and neglect
The number of cases of elder abuse seen at Family Service Centres rose over the past three years - from 232 in 2019 to 283 in 2020 and 338 in 2021. However, higher-risk cases of abuse or neglect - seen by the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Adult Protective Service and Family Violence Specialist Centres, for example - did not go up. These details were given by Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling in Parliament on Monday (Apr 4) when she answered an MP’s questions. Ms Sun also spoke about efforts to raise public awareness of elder abuse and neglect.
