Sun Xueling on minimising impact of 5-day childcare services on families
The main objective of the shift to a five-day work week for childcare services is to improve the well-being of early childhood educators and make early childhood careers more attractive and sustainable. Families were informed early so that they could make alternative caregiving arrangements or work out alternative arrangements with their employers. For example, employees can request flexible workplace arrangements with their employers. Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling said this in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 12). She pointed out that the Government recognised the need for sufficient lead time to minimise the impact on families and started the process early ahead of the implementation of the changes next year.
