Sun Xueling on rent movements for HDB shops
Rent for HDB shops tendered out for medical facilities has largely risen over the years. The average rent per square foot was S$10.40 in 2020, S$10 in 2021, S$16.80 in 2022, S$17.50 in 2023, S$22.70 in 2024 and S$28.50 in the first half of 2025. For vacated units in existing HDB blocks - typically in older estates - the average rent per square foot rose from S$5.70 in 2020 to S$11.40 in the first half of 2025. It is higher for new lettings in new BTO developments, which increased from S$12.30 in 2020 to S$39.30 in the first half of 2025. Senior Minister of State for National Development Sun Xueling shared these statistics in reply to parliamentary questions on Wednesday (Sep 24). She also updated the House on rent movements for various categories of shops in HDB estates and towns.
