Sun Xueling on stepping up the fight against scams
The Home Team has reorganised itself for greater efficiency and effectiveness in the fight against scams. This includes setting up an Anti-Scam Command in March 2022 to consolidate and optimise resources and expertise across all units. Minister of State for Home Affairs Sun Xueling said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22) in reply to an MP’s questions. She said the police partnered stakeholders from public and private sectors in the fight against scams, with employees from six major banks in Singapore as well as staff from the Government Technology Agency of Singapore being co-located at the Anti-Scam Command. Police also leverage technology, such as the use of analytics to enhance their abilities and to facilitate quicker decision-making. Ms Sun said that while the Government is keen to enhance collaboration with foreign law enforcement agencies, it will depend on their capacity and receptivity. Highlighting how "the best defence against scams is a discerning public", she said the Government has stepped up its public education efforts, with a new anti-scam campaign this year.
