Syed Harun Alhabsyi on Platform Workers Bill
Amid fears of potentially dehumanising platform workers, the Platform Workers Bill is important in protecting their dignity, said NMP Syed Harun Alhabsyi. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 10), he said the Bill also ensures a more fair and equitable employment support structure for them. He sought clarification on the definition of platform workers, pointing out that it can be applied to other types of services that may use similar platforms, such as household cleaning, counselling and caregiving services, or even possibly overlap with certain professional services such as home nursing. He also sought clarification on the impact of CPF contributions and the costs associated with regulatory requirements, especially in the short to medium term. He urged the Government to assure platform workers, employers and the public by ensuring that the measures are implemented smoothly.
