Sylvia Lim on Administration of Justice (Protection) (Amendment) Bill
In assessing whether the Administration of Justice (Protection) (Amendment) Bill is needed, it is useful to take stock of the tools already available to handle court applications that amount to an abuse of process, said MP Sylvia Lim. In this light, she raised several queries on the Bill in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13). The first relates to capital cases. Ms Lim pointed out that the Post-Appeal Applications in Capital Cases Act has just been operationalised and it is only fair to wait and see whether it is adequate to manage court proceedings in capital cases. Turning to the consultations on the Bill, Ms Lim wanted to know if the Law Society of Singapore was specifically consulted and if so, what were its views. She also asked the Government to clarify why the existing framework for disciplining lawyers is not adequate to handle the scenarios envisaged by the Bill.
