Sylvia Lim on Financial Services and Markets (Amendment) Bill

06:20 Min

In parliament on Tuesday (Oct 6), MP Sylvia Lim raised several questions about proposed measures to tackle proliferation financing. On the definition of the term, she asked if the government intends to curtail the financing of not just weapons of mass destruction but also their means of delivery, and if it intends to go beyond countries sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council. She also wanted to know what additional powers are being granted that the Monetary Authority of Singapore does not already have. Ms Lim noted that the Bill does not address many concerns in the Financial Action Task Force’s latest mutual evaluation report on Singapore’s counter-proliferation efforts.
