Tan Kiat How on protection of customers' data by businesses
The Government takes illegal hacking very seriously and will ensure that its laws remain effective to make cyberspace safe and secure, said Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Tan Kiat How. Speaking in reply to an MP's questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 9), he stressed that the laws make clear the obligations that businesses must meet when they collect and store customers' data. It is the responsibility of businesses to be vigilant, and adopt proper cyber security and data protection measures to keep their customers data safe, he said. The Government is also working to raise awareness and encourage businesses to adopt good cyber security and data protection measures, he added.
