Tan Kiat How on raising professional standards for veterinarians

Over the last three years, the Animal Veterinary Service (AVS) received 65 complaints about veterinarians. Of these, 15 cases were made in 2019, 25 in 2020 and 25 in 2021. Ten veterinarians were issued warnings and one received a compound fine. None were suspended or had their licences revoked. Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How shared these numbers in reply to questions from an MP in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2). He said AVS is looking into setting up a professional entity to raise standards and practices for the sector. It is consulting the relevant parties and stakeholders.
