Tan Kiat How on suicide prevention strategy and programmes
Singapore’s suicide rate is generally lower compared with other developed economies. There was an increase in suicides among those aged 30 to 39 in 2024, following a relatively stable trend in the preceding years. Senior Minister of State for Health Tan Kiat How, who highlighted these statistics in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Thursday (Sep 10), stressed the need to continue to prevent suicides. Strengthening mental resilience and encouraging early help-seeking are key to suicide prevention and the government will continue to monitor the effectiveness of its measures, he added.
