Tan Kiat How on supporting global conservation targets

04:55 Min

Singapore will work closely with other countries to support and implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at the UN Biodiversity Conference in December 2022, said Senior Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How. Replying to an MP's question in Parliament on Friday (Feb 24), he pointed out that countries are expected to contribute towards the global targets under this framework, according to their national circumstances, priorities and capabilities. Singapore contributes towards regional conservation efforts by sharing its technical expertise in areas such as protected area management and conservation. It has designated the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve as ASEAN Heritage Parks. Mr Tan said as a responsible global citizen, Singapore will continue to play its part while taking into account its unique circumstances as a small and densely populated city-state. It is safeguarding more green spaces where possible, as well as establishing additional nature parks and restoring core habitats.
