Tan See Leng on closing the pay gap among graduates

10:41 Min

Various Government agencies, including the Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Trade and Industry, have been working together to tackle the issue of wage differences among ITE, polytechnic and university graduates, said Manpower Minister Tan See Leng. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 7) in response to an MP’s questions, he said this is important for social cohesion. Dr Tan elaborated on efforts in three areas - enabling ITE and polytechnic graduates to enter good-quality, in-demand jobs so that they can have good career prospects and sustained wage growth; supporting them to continuously upskill and progress in their careers as the economy restructures; and getting employers to consider them fairly for job and promotion opportunities.
