Tin Pei Ling on cost of living crisis

14:24 Min

The Government has been providing support to Singaporeans and families to cope with the rising cost of living, and actively responding to the evolving environment with targeted policies and programmes. Communities and individuals can also step in to close any gaps. This was the assessment of MP Tin Pei Ling when she spoke in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 7). She said the Government’s ability to finance increasing social spending is testament to its sound fiscal policies, disciplined governance and robust reserves. However, she said the “recent intensity” of the escalating cost of living does necessitate attention. Highlighting the rise in prices of cooked food, she said there is scope for the Government to intervene to help micro-businesses like hawkers better manage costs without being compelled to pass them on to ordinary consumers.
