UK to help dozens of Gazans study at British universities amid complications caused by war
The UK government has reportedly agreed to plans to help 39 students in Gaza come study in Britain, after pressure from lecturers, politicians and activists. The students have received offers from UK universities, but the war has significantly complicated their ability to leave the Strip. If successful, they would be the first to leave to study in the UK since 2023. However, Israel will have to give permission to each student to leave — and UK-Israel relations have declined, with Britain prepared to recognise Palestine as a state. Stuart Smith reports.
