US, China begin fresh round of tariff talks seeking to extend temporary truce

03:42 Min

Officials from the US and China are in Sweden for a fresh round of talks to extend a 90-day pause on tariffs. President Donald Trump hinted that the US is getting very close to an agreement but offered no details. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will lead negotiations over the next two days — in what is their third meeting in less than three months. The current 90-day truce is set to end on Aug 12. Without a deal or an extension, tariffs could snap back to 145% on the US side and 125% on the Chinese side. Toni Waterman reports from Washington DC.
