Valerie Lee on Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill

Better prevention of road traffic accidents requires better understanding, and data should reveal where enforcement and education can have the greatest impact. Making this point in parliament on Tuesday (Aug 4), MP Valerie Lee asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to share the principal causes of serious road accidents in Singapore. She also urged the ministry to look at how accident data, traffic violations and citizens’ reports can be used to identify emerging hot spots. Ms Lee added that deterrence should be complemented by rehabilitation for drivers returning after lengthy disqualification. She suggested a structured refresher or rehab programme before licences are restored.
