People may be exposed to intoxicating substances in the course of work - for example, inhaling petrol fumes, glue or paint at a petrol station, construction site or factory. Would they be at risk of committing a new offence of driving under the influence, where there is no longer a need to prove impairment? MP Vikram Nair asked this question in parliament on Tuesday (Aug 4). He also wanted to know if a new offence of dangerous driving to endanger another person on purpose that causes death or grievous hurt is necessary, or could be prosecuted under existing legislation.
