Vote on public housing motions
In Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 7), a vote was taken on a motion moved by the National Development Minister - to affirm the importance of keeping public housing affordable and accessible while protecting the interests of current and future generations of Singaporeans, and endorsing the commitment of the Government to those twin goals. It was passed with 82 ayes, 11 noes and zero abstentions - MPs from the Workers’ Party and NCMPs from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) having voted against. The motion moved by PSP’s Leong Mun Wai - calling on the Government to review its public housing policies in order to deliver affordable and accessible HDB flats to all Singaporeans, strengthen the owner-occupation intent of public housing, protect retirement adequacy and keep public housing inclusive for every Singaporean of each generation - fell with 11 ayes, 82 noes and zero abstentions.
