Poh Li San on Land Transport and Related Matters Bill
It is finally time to reset the original intent of personal mobility aids (PMAs) - to protect and support seniors and those with mobility challenges, said MP Poh Li San. The proposed amendments are overdue, but “better late than never”, she said in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 3). Ms Poh also sought clarification on a few provisions of the bill. She asked if age, rather than need, is a good way to delineate eligibility for PMA use. She hopes the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will consider extending conditional PMA user eligibility. She also urged LTA to set up collection points for non-compliant vehicles, and arrange for them to be sold and used in overseas markets, or scrapped and recycled so they do not create a new problem for the environment.
