Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 4: Louis Ng on tackling second-hand smoke

02:55 Min

In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1), Deputy Speaker Christopher de Souza dealt with the expenditure estimates for the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. Following that, MP Louis Ng repeated his call for Singapore to amend its policies and even its laws to tackle the problem of second-hand smoke. He noted that complaints about this have doubled and it is not something which those affected can simply adapt to. Mr Ng said the Government now has “some breathing space” to devote to the problem, having made strides on a slew of other issues, from mitigating climate change and tackling dengue and high-rise littering to advancing food resilience and uplifting the hawker industry.
