Every year in the past five years, an average of seven cases of parents queried the outcome of their children’s selection under the Direct School Admission (DSA) Exercise for secondary schools. The Ministry of Education (MOE) reviewed the cases and concluded that the schools conducted their selection processes rigorously, objectively and professionally. Education Minister Chan Chun Sing gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 7). He said schools have the flexibility to determine their selection and assessment criteria. At the same time, they must adhere to MOE’s selection guidelines and uphold key principles such as transparency, objectivity and inclusiveness. During the selection process, for example, schools are required to update and publish their selection criteria on their website before each DSA exercise.
