Gerald Giam on Regulation of Imports and Exports (Amendment) Bill

The Regulation of Imports and Exports (Amendment) Bill addresses serious harm to Singapore’s trade integrity, but risks imposing disproportionate burdens on small- and medium-sized enterprises, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (Nov 6), he stressed the need to mitigate these burdens. He urged the government to provide support through targeted grants for enhancements to internal systems and consultancy services. There should also be a tiered enforcement framework to guide honest traders on compliance, he said.
