Victor Lye on Securities and Futures (Amendment) Bill

07:47 Min

With a new legislative framework to facilitate dual-listing arrangements on the Singapore Exchange, Singapore must be careful not to “capture the ceremony of listing but not the economics of liquidity”, said MP Victor Lye. He said success should not be measured only by how many companies list here, but whether liquidity - measured by sustainable trading activity, research coverage, investor participation and price discovery - is anchored in Singapore. He suggested adopting a liquidity-focused development framework and sharpening Singapore’s end-investor value proposition. He added that instead of tagging onto other leading markets, Singapore should aim to position itself as a key node in the broader capital markets ecosystem.
