Choo Pei Ling on Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
As Singapore ages and new towns are developed, the government should look into designing roads and infrastructure that cater to different users, particularly the elderly, said MP Choo Pei Ling. She said many seniors are not careless about road safety, but simply need more time to move around. In parliament on Tuesday (Aug 4), Dr Choo also spoke on a new offence of driving with controlled or psychoactive substances in the blood, regardless of impairment. She suggested a public education campaign in partnership with pharmacies and general practitioners so that patients on legitimate prescriptions are not caught unawares. Finally, she called for permanent and irreversible neurological impairment in victims to be recognised as an aggravating factor in sentencing for dangerous driving.
