Yip Hon Weng on Transboundary Haze Pollution (Amendment) Bill
Effective enforcement must take off the "corporate mask" of polluting companies that hide behind complex corporate structures and shift the burden away from ordinary citizens who currently pay twice, first with their health and then with the financial costs of protecting it. MP Yip Hon Weng said this in parliament on Wednesday (Nov 4) in support of the Transboundary Haze Pollution (Amendment) Bill. He welcomed the new independent assessor regime but argued that disclosure must lead to mandatory land restoration, harsher personal criminal liability for executives and direct financial relief for vulnerable residents through an automatic "clean air credit".
