Wan Rizal on Administration of Muslim Law (Amendment) Bill

05:22 Min

As the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) seeks to introduce a definition of Muslim religious schools so it can better administer them and ensure they comply with requirements, MP Wan Rizal asked several questions about the proposal. How is a madrasah defined and what criteria were used? How will the definition promote quality Islamic religious education and work alongside the Asatizah Recognition Scheme (ARS)? How will educators and institutions not recognised by the ARS be regulated effectively? Finally, how does the Bill ensure that the regulation of madrasahs does not impede personal religious autonomy? Dr Wan Rizal spoke in Parliament on Monday (Feb 5).
