Wan Rizal on Child Development Co-Savings (Amendment) Bill
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may be concerned about operational challenges and loss of productivity when increased parental leave kicks in. The Government should consider giving them extra support, perhaps in the form of temporary manpower assistance or further training to ensure smooth business operations. MP Wan Rizal made this suggestion in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 19). He also spoke about fostering a culture of trust, responsibility and integrity instead of imposing stringent checks that could deter parents from taking leave and perpetuate stigma. A public awareness campaign could be held to normalise the idea of fathers taking extended leave, he said. Dr Wan Rizal also suggested a pilot programme or study to assess how these benefits can be extended to all working parents, such as gig workers as well.
