Wan Rizal on MediShield Life Scheme (Amendment) Bill
As the Government seeks to modernise and expand MediShield Life to meet evolving healthcare needs, it must carefully manage costs to ensure that the national health insurance scheme remains sustainable and premiums are affordable for all, said MP Wan Rizal. He welcomed the move to allow more flexibility in approving institutions and services for MediShield Life coverage, as there has been significant growth in the scope of medical services and advanced treatments in Singapore. However, he suggested establishing clear criteria for essential coverage and implementing regular financial reviews that will enable timely adjustments where needed. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 11), Dr Wan Rizal also asked for mental health services to be covered in future evaluations of the scheme, as there is growing demand.
