Yip Hon Weng on advancing mental health

12:59 Min

Mental health is a complex issue that often goes unseen behind societal stigmas, especially in Asian cultures, said MP Yip Hon Weng in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 6). He highlighted seniors as a demographic needing particular attention as Singapore moves towards becoming a super-aged society. Mr Yip called for a more targeted approach to cater to a diverse senior populace, recognising differences in education, employment status, independence and technological acumen. He urged a greater focus on building social networks for seniors and empowering them through digital tools and technology. Seniors with mental health concerns must have convenient and affordable access to quality services and expanding telehealth options can bridge the gap for those with mobility problems, he said.
