Yip Hon Weng on Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill
In Parliament on Monday (Nov 11), MP Yip Hon Weng said he supported the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill and its goals, but had concerns about the potential impact on local businesses, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises. He suggested simplifying energy efficiency reporting processes for small businesses and giving them financial assistance to upgrade their older systems to meet the new standards. He added that training programmes for energy management must be accessible to smaller firms so that expertise does not end up being concentrated within large enterprises. Raising awareness of the changes and the rationale behind them is also paramount, along with clear metrics for measuring the impact of the new rules and sharing the results openly with the public, said Mr Yip.
