Yip Hon Weng on Environmental Protection and Management (Amendment) Bill
Noise pollution is a real problem and a holistic approach is needed to tackle it, said MP Yip Hon Weng in Parliament on Monday (Sep 13). He suggested clear and effective systems for the public to give feedback to construction companies about noisy worksites, and proper protocols to escalate issues to the National Environment Agency if they remain unresolved. He asked for clarity on projects covered by new measures - if, apart from building sites, they might include small-scale upgrading work in housing estates, roadworks or renovation of private property. Mr Yip also called for stiffer penalties for errant construction firms, such as consequences for future tender bids. He said fines are not an effective deterrent.
