Zaqy Mohamad on ensuring workers’ safety under adverse weather conditions

08:51 Min

Given the wide range of possible weather conditions and the way they can affect a diverse range of worksite situations, it is not practical for the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to specify the thresholds for companies to stop work, said Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad. Instead, companies must implement measures that are specific to their business and safety needs, he said in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 16). On their part, workers should share feedback and report unsafe workplace practices to MOM. Mr Zaqy pointed out that MOM has regular safety inspections to ensure that companies have taken the necessary measures to mitigate workplace safety and health risks, including those arising from weather conditions.
