An extraordinary announcement from Joe Biden on Sunday (Jul 21) who decided to drop out of the US presidential election and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's new nominee.
Harris, 59, said she intends to "earn and win" the nomination. She has received the support of many top Democrats, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and his Pennsylvania counterpart Josh Shapiro, both of whom were touted as possible contenders.
However, powerful party members Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have not publicly given her their endorsement.
