When gaming lifestyle brand Razer made a corporate acquisition in 2017, its workforce size expanded significantly as the company enhanced its operational capacity to cater to international demands.

This sudden expansion introduced new challenges, including fragmented employee information, inconsistent business and human resources (HR) practices, as well as a disjointed company culture.

To tackle these issues, Razer turned to its technology partner, Workday, leveraging its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered human capital management (HCM) platform.

According to Ms April Wan, Razer’s vice president and global head of People and Organisation, Workday HCM has played an integral role in Razer’s HR digital transformation journey. It has enabled the company to effectively manage over 1,500 employees in 19 offices across 13 markets who, in turn, serve 3.2 billion gamers worldwide.

“Workday shares our passion for delivering a world-class employee experience through relentless innovation and data-driven insights,” said Ms Wan. “This alignment of values has reinforced our confidence in Workday as the ideal partner for our digital transformation journey.”

OPTIMISING HR AND DATA MANAGEMENT

The Workday platform offers real-time insights into training progress and effectiveness, enhancing the overall learning experience for employees.

By streamlining and automating Razer’s HR processes into a single platform, redundancies and inefficiencies were eliminated across talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, learning and development, as well as employee engagement initiatives.

“Workday has helped us unlock synergies, drive operational excellence and generate cost savings,” shared Ms Wan.

Before adopting Workday HCM, it took up to seven days to collect employee data that was scattered across disparate HR systems and practices. This lengthy process compromised the accuracy and integrity of the information.

Once the fragmented people-related processes were streamlined, data could be extracted on demand, enabling Ms Wan and her team to generate reports in minutes.

Previously, Razer’s training programmes were spread across multiple platforms, leading to duplicated efforts, inconsistent content delivery and administrative bottlenecks.

By centralising learning activities on a single platform, Razer was able to streamline course creation, distribution and tracking. Automated workflows now ensure that employees are enrolled in relevant training modules without manual intervention, significantly reducing administrative overhead.

Additionally, the Workday platform offers real-time insights into training progress and effectiveness, enabling targeted improvements and ensuring alignment with business goals. This consolidation has saved time and resources, as well as enhanced the overall learning experience, leading to better employee engagement and skill development.

Razer’s onboarding and offboarding processes have also been transformed through centralisation and automation. New hires and departing employees benefit from a unified process that reduces administrative burden, enhances compliance and provides real-time insights for continuous improvement.

ENABLING MORE COHESIVE DECISION-MAKING

Having a single source of truth is essential for informed decision-making. With a robust foundation of data accuracy, consistency and security, the platform functions as a repository for comprehensive and up-to-date employee information.

Managers and employees have access to real-time insights, analytics and reporting capabilities, empowering them to make data-driven decisions, enhance workforce planning and drive strategic initiatives.

“Centralised and easily accessible employee information streamlines compliance management and mitigates risks,” added Ms Wan. “Having the confidence to navigate complex and evolving regulatory environments is crucial as we prepare for re-listing.”

The Workday platform also enables all stakeholders to easily track candidate progress and maintain consistency in the hiring process, resulting in a shorter time-to-hire and improved candidate experience.

Managing internal mobility has also become more efficient. Seamlessly matching employees with the right opportunities facilitates their career growth at Razer, while integrating compensation data with performance and market data ensures that compensation practices remain competitive and aligned with business goals.

“During our annual compensation review, the unified data within Workday allows us to conduct thorough market analysis and adjust our salary structures accordingly,” said Ms Wan. “This helps us attract and retain top talent while ensuring fairness and equity in our compensation practices across the organisation.”

SUPPORTING THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY

Razer has over 1,500 employees across 13 markets, including the European Union.

The Workday platform continues to add advanced features, such as intelligent automation and rich analytics, that leverage AI to help organisations optimise and manage frontline worker demand and schedules.

Recognising the potential for emerging technologies to revolutionise the HR landscape, Ms Wan highlighted data security and privacy as areas where decentralised blockchain technology can enhance safety and decision-making. She also noted that AI can improve talent acquisition by sourcing candidates with skill sets and competencies that are more relevant to the role.

As more global organisations undertake digital transformation, Ms Wan believes that a unified system will be invaluable for streamlining data management and decision-making across HR functions.

She added: “Workday’s robust analytics and real-time insights enhance efficiency, compliance and strategic planning, ultimately driving better business outcomes and supporting a seamless transformation journey.”
