Recognising excellence in human resource strategies and practices
Certified by Top Employers Institute, the 2024 Top Employers in Asia Pacific embody an outstanding commitment to improving the employee experience.
For just over 2.7 million employees in the Asia Pacific region, work isn’t just a routine; it’s a dynamic environment teeming with leadership prospects, innovation, robust people-oriented organisational design, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
They are employees of the 2024 Top Employers in Asia Pacific – a group of organisations recognised for their outstanding achievement in human resources (HR) best practices by Top Employers Institute.
As a leading global authority on excellence in HR practices, Top Employers Institute aims to accelerate global HR standards to enrich the world of work. Through its Top Employers Institute Certification Programme, participating companies can be surveyed, validated, certified and recognised as an employer of choice. This year alone, Top Employers Institute has certified over 2,300 organisations in 121 countries and regions that positively impact the lives of a collective 12 million employees.
ELEVATING HR PRACTICES TO BECOME EMPLOYERS OF CHOICE
Mr Billy Elliott, Top Employer Institute’s APAC regional director, said that the 364 organisations named Top Employers in Asia Pacific for 2024 hailed from 22 countries.
China, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia were the top five countries with the highest number of certified organisations. The average overall score achieved by this year’s cohort of Top Employers in Asia Pacific was an impressive 88 per cent.
“This group of Top Employers has proven to offer an outstanding workplace experience, empower employees and play a significant part in making the world of work better,” he noted.
According to Mr Elliott, the organisations were awarded the internationally acclaimed Top Employer certification in recognition of their calibre and ongoing efforts to create, implement and advance their HR strategies and practices.
Said Mr David Plink, CEO of Top Employers Institute: “Consistency in HR practices across the world characterises an exclusive group of companies that has achieved global certification through the Top Employers programme.”
A LEGACY OF ACCELERATING HR IMPACT
For over three decades, Top Employers Institute has committed itself to accelerating the impact of HR strategies by certifying, benchmarking, aligning and connecting top-tier employers globally.
As an integral step in the certification process, organisations participate in Top Employers Institute’s HR Best Practices Survey, which enables them to objectively measure and benchmark their HR strategy and practices.
To qualify for recognition as a Top Employer, each entity navigates a four-stage programme governed by a stringent standardised process. This methodology is informed by the latest research conducted annually by Top Employers Institute, ensuring that organisations meet the required standards of global HR excellence.
According to findings from the Top Employers Certification Programme 2024, the most-represented industry sectors in Asia Pacific were pharmaceuticals, information technology, consumer goods and services, food and beverages, and automotive.
The Top Employers in Asia Pacific this year named three top business priorities: Growth in the form of market, segment and geographical expansion; innovation, achieved through creating new products and services, and digitalisation; and the attraction, retention and engagement of customers.
In the domain of HR, organisations were focused on leadership development, employee experience, and organisational design and change.
ATTRACTING AND RETAINING TALENT IN AN EVOLVING ENVIRONMENT
Change is a necessary focus in an era where employees’ priorities have shifted. Being recognised as a stellar employer can offer organisations an edge in retaining and attracting talent.
“Employees make the organisation, and when they are empowered by an excellent HR strategy and practices, they will thrive,” said Mr Elliott. “Recognition through the certification programme helps companies to elevate their status as an employer of choice.”
A Deloitte survey last year found that millennial and Generation Z professionals look for employers that match their values, take a proactive stance on sustainability, and are willing to empower their employees in leading change in the workplace.
These evolving preferences were attributed in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the acceleration of trends like digitalisation, flexi-work and remote work arrangements, and the growing importance of soft skills like adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking.
Organisations that proactively develop HR strategies to harness the potential of these shifts will not only retain talent but continue to build trust and boost productivity despite economic headwinds.
“Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations,” said Mr Plink. “We’ve witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year – an exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers of 2024.”
