Samsung Electronics to cancel $9.55 billion worth of treasury shares

SEOUL, March 31 : Samsung Electronics plans to cancel treasury shares on Thursday to boost shareholder value, a regulatory filing on showed Tuesday, in a deal worth about 14.6 trillion won ($9.55 billion) based on the shares' Monday closing price.
Based on the shares' book value, the planned cancellation would be worth 5.3 trillion won.
Samsung Electronics shares closed down 5.2 per cent on Tuesday.
